How to Win at Castle Guard: Tower Defense Tips

Castle Guard rewards planning more than fast fingers. Each map gives you a small pile of coins, 20 lives and four tower types, and the choices you make in the first waves shape the whole game. This guide explains where to build, which towers counter which monsters, and how to get ready for the ogre bosses that arrive every fifth wave.

Build where the road bends

Towers only fire at enemies inside their range, so the best tiles sit inside a bend or between two stretches of road, where one tower covers the path twice. Spend your first coins on one or two Archers near the start of the road. At 50 coins they are the cheapest tower, they shoot quickly and they can hit flying bats, which makes them a safe opening on every map.

Match the tower to the monster

Runners are fast but fragile, so quick Archer shots and Frost slows handle them well. Knights wear armour that soaks up most of a normal hit, so an Archer arrow barely scratches them. Frost and Storm damage ignores armour completely, and a fully upgraded Cannon hits hard enough to punch through. Cannons cannot target flying bats at all, so never rely on them alone.

A strong core is one Frost tower at a busy bend with Cannons around it to splash the slowed crowd, plus Archers covering the air. Add a Storm tower once you can afford 120 coins: its lightning jumps from enemy to enemy, which makes it deadly against packed groups and armoured knights.

Upgrade or build more?

Each upgrade raises damage, range and attack speed, and a level three tower is much stronger than two level one towers in the same place. A good rule is to build just enough towers to cover the road, then pour coins into upgrades at your best bend. Selling returns only 70 percent of what a tower cost, so avoid moving towers around without a clear reason.

Get ready for boss waves

Every fifth wave adds ogres: one on wave 5, two on wave 10, three on wave 15 and four on wave 20. An ogre that reaches the gate costs five lives instead of one. Save coins before those waves so you can upgrade right away, and make sure a Frost tower covers the road, because every extra second an ogre spends in range means more damage from everything else.

Use the clock to your advantage

Starting the next wave before the countdown ends pays two coins for every second left, which adds up quickly on calm early waves. Do it while your defence is clearly ahead, and stop as soon as enemies start getting close to the castle. The speed button saves time on easy waves; switch back to normal speed when a boss walks in so you can react.

Questions

Which map should I start on?
Start on Green Meadow (Easy). It gives the most starting coins and the weakest monsters. Sunny Canyon and Frozen Pass give fewer coins and tougher enemies, but they multiply your score.
Do lives left over add to my score?
Yes. When you save the castle, every remaining life adds 100 points, multiplied by the map bonus, so a clean defence is worth a lot.
When do flying bats first appear?
Bats join the enemy mix on wave 6, which is mostly flying foes. Have Archer, Frost or Storm towers covering the road before then.
