Space Lander is a calm but tricky landing game. Your craft drops toward a randomly shaped planet surface, and you control only the main engine and the rotation. Slow your fall, line up with a flat landing pad and touch down gently and upright. Smaller pads multiply your score, and landing in the centre with a soft touch earns even more. Fuel is limited and carries over between planets, gravity gets stronger, and later worlds add crosswinds. You have three ships per run.
How to play
- Fire the engine to slow your fall; the craft pushes in the direction its nose points.
- Rotate to steer sideways, then straighten up before touching down.
- Land with both legs on a pad, upright and slowly: the instruments turn green when you are safe.
- Smaller pads with higher multipliers give more points.
- Leftover fuel adds to your score and you get a top-up on each new planet.
Controls
- Computer
- Up arrow, W or Space to fire the engine, Left and Right arrows or A and D to rotate. Esc pauses.
- Phone and tablet
- Hold the big flame button on the right to fire the engine, and use the two rotate buttons on the left to tilt the craft.
Tips
- Short bursts of thrust save a lot of fuel compared with holding the engine.
- Kill your sideways speed high up, then drop straight down onto the pad.
- Watch the vertical speed reading; it must be green when you touch down.
Questions
- Why did I crash on the pad?
- You must land upright, with both legs on the pad, and with low vertical and sideways speed. The readouts in the corner turn red when a value is too high.
- Are the planets always the same?
- No. Each planet's terrain and landing pads are generated randomly, and gravity, wind and colours change as you progress.
