Kart Dash Tips: How to Win Every Cup

Kart Dash cups are won over three races, so steady top finishes beat one lucky win. Five rivals race for the same points: 10 for first, then 7, 5, 3, 2 and 1. Boost pads, item boxes and clean driving decide most races. These tips help you gain places, protect your lead and finish on top of the cup standings.

Drive clean lines

Your kart accelerates on its own, so racing is all about steering. Stay on the road at all times: grass slows your kart a lot and costs more time than any item can win back. Take curves smoothly from the outside toward the inside, and avoid zigzagging, which scrubs off speed. Brake only for the sharpest bends. On curves the kart is pushed toward the outside, so start steering a little earlier than feels natural.

Hit every boost pad

Blue boost pads give a free burst of speed. Learn where they sit on each track and line up early so you cross them squarely. Linking a boost pad into a straight gives the biggest gain. Swerving at the last moment to reach a pad often puts you on the grass, so plan your line a corner ahead.

Use items wisely

Boost is best on long straights, never right before a sharp curve. Slick drops a slippery puddle behind you, so use it when a rival is close behind or in a narrow section. Shield blocks one hit, so save it when you are leading and a rival with a Slick is right behind you. Rivals use items too.

Protect your position

When leading, drive the cleanest line and keep a Shield ready. When chasing, use Boost on straights and look for rivals running wide on corners. Rivals that fall far behind often catch up a little, so build a lead and keep it with steady laps. Staying out of trouble matters more than one big overtake.

Think about the cup

The cup winner is the kart with the most points after three races, so a second place in every race can beat one win and two bad finishes. Pick a cup that suits you: the Sunny Cup is a gentle start, while the Frost and Volcano cups bring trickier roads. Check the standings after each race to see how many points you need.

Questions

How many laps is each race?
Three laps per race, and each cup has three races on its own themed roads.
Which cup should I start with?
Start with the Sunny Cup, then try Dune, Frost and Volcano as you get used to the controls.
How long does a Boost last?
A Boost gives a burst of extra top speed for about a second and a half, so use it where the road is straight.
