Dots & Boxes

Plateau et cartes

Dots & Boxes is the classic pencil-and-paper strategy game, rebuilt for any screen. Take turns drawing a line between two neighbouring dots. Complete the fourth side of a box and it is yours: you score a point and must move again. Early on it is all about not giving anything away; late in the game whole chains of boxes are handed over, and a well-timed double-cross can swing the result. Play on a 4×4, 6×6 or 8×8 grid against an easy, medium or hard computer, with a friend on the same device, or online.

Astuces

  • A yellow “!” on the preview warns you that the line gives your opponent a box.
  • Count the long chains: in the endgame, the player who is forced to open the first long chain usually loses.
  • Taking every box is not always best: declining the last two boxes of a chain (a double-cross) can force your opponent to open the next chain for you.

Questions

Do I get another turn after closing a box?
Yes. Every time your line completes one or two boxes you score them and must draw another line.
How hard is the Hard computer?
It avoids giving away boxes, counts chains and loops in the endgame and uses double-crosses to keep control, so you need to plan the chain battle to beat it.
