Memory Match Tips: Find Pairs Faster

Memory Match is about method as much as memory. Each level gives you a board of face-down zellige tiles and a clock, and stars depend on how few moves you need. The five levels grow from 12 cards to 36. These tips help you remember more, waste fewer flips and turn quick matches into combo points and time bonuses.

Flip in a fixed order

Random flipping makes cards hard to remember because your eyes jump around the board. Instead work row by row from one corner. When you uncover a new card, flip the next unknown card in your order as the second one. This builds a mental map of the board in a sequence you can recall later.

Name what you see

Each pattern has its own colour and shape. Give each one a short name and link it to its position, such as "blue star, top left". Saying names quietly to yourself makes them far easier to recall than pictures alone. On bigger boards, focus on remembering the patterns you have seen exactly once, since those are your next easy matches.

Never waste a known pair

As soon as you flip a card whose partner you have already seen, use your second flip on that partner. Never open two unknown cards when you know a match is waiting. Each failed pair costs a move, and moves decide stars: about one and a half moves per pair earns three stars. Even a wrong pair is useful when it shows you two new cards, so make every flip teach you something.

Build combos

A match is worth 100 points, and matches in a row raise that through the combo, up to 500 points per pair. A miss resets the combo. Once you have seen most of the board, clear the pairs you know one after another for a big streak. Saving known pairs for a final run can turn a decent score into a great one.

Mind the clock

The timer starts when you flip your first card, and every second left at the end is worth 10 points, plus a bonus for each star. Do not rush so much that you forget cards, but do not stare at the board either. A steady pace with careful flips beats fast guessing on every level.

Questions

How many stars can I get per level?
Up to three. Three stars need roughly one and a half moves per pair, two stars about two moves per pair.
Can I start on a bigger board?
Yes. Pick any of the five board sizes on the title screen, from 4 by 3 up to 6 by 6.
When does the timer start?
When you flip your first card, so take a moment to get ready before you begin.
