Golf Solitaire

Board & cards

Golf Solitaire is a quick, addictive patience game. Thirty-five cards are dealt face up in seven columns of five, with one card on the pile and the rest in the stock. Play the bottom card of any column onto the pile if it is one rank higher or lower, suits don't matter, and chain as many plays as you can before turning a new stock card. Each round is a hole scored like golf: the fewer cards left on the table, the better. Play 1, 3 or 9 holes.

Tips

  • Before playing, look for the longest chain: a move that seems good can cut off a run of five cards.
  • When two cards fit, prefer the one from the tallest column so you uncover buried cards.
  • Use Undo to test a different chain; there is no penalty, only the cards left at the end count.

Questions

What does the King–Ace wrap setting do?
With wrap on, an Ace can be played on a King and a King on an Ace, which makes long chains much easier. With it off, Aces and Kings are the ends of the sequence.
How does scoring work?
Each hole counts strokes like golf: the cards left on the table, or minus the cards left in the stock if you clear the table. The game turns this into points (35 minus strokes), so a higher total is better.
Can I undo moves?
Yes, you can undo any move within the current hole as many times as you like.
