Domino Fives

Board & cards

Domino Fives is the scoring version of dominoes, also known as All Fives or Muggins. Players match tiles to the open ends of the layout as usual, but every time the open ends add up to a multiple of five you score those points straight away. The first double becomes the spinner and opens two extra arms, so counts of 20 or more are possible. Go out first to collect the pips left in your rivals’ hands. Play to 150 or 250 points against one to three computer players, or with two to four friends online.

Tips

  • Watch the Ends counter: it turns gold when the layout already adds up to a multiple of 5.
  • Doubles at the end of an arm count both halves, so a 5-5 or 6-6 can turn a small count into a big score.
  • Don’t leave a count that is easy to turn into a multiple of 5 for the next player — fives and zeros are the dangerous numbers.

Questions

How is the spinner counted?
While nothing is played on one of its long sides, the spinner counts both of its halves for that side. Its top and bottom only count once tiles are played there.
What happens when the game is blocked?
If nobody can play and the boneyard is empty, the player with the lightest hand wins the round and scores the difference to the other hands, rounded to the nearest 5.
Can I play with friends?
Yes, 2 to 4 players can play online; empty or abandoned seats are taken over by computer players.
