Traffic Out is a classic-style sliding parking puzzle on a 6x6 lot. Cars and trucks can only move forwards and backwards in their own lane, and your goal is to clear a path so the red car can drive out of the exit. Every lot is generated by a solver that explores all possible positions, so it is always solvable and the game knows the minimum number of moves. Match that number for a perfect score, and try Hard for lots that need twenty moves or more.
How to play
- Pick Easy, Medium or Hard and press Play.
- Drag a car along its lane to slide it. Cars cannot turn or jump.
- Move the cars blocking the red car out of its row.
- Slide the red car to the exit on the right to win.
- Try to finish in the minimum number of moves shown at the top.
Controls
- Computer
- Drag cars with the mouse. Or press Tab or Space to select a car and the arrow keys to slide it. Z undoes, H shows the next best move, R resets, Esc pauses.
- Phone and tablet
- Drag a car forwards or backwards with your finger. Use Undo, Hint and Reset below the lot.
Tips
- Work backwards: find which car blocks the red car, then what blocks that car.
- Long trucks are often the key; free their lane first.
- Sliding a car all the way in one drag counts as a single move.
Questions
- What does the Min number mean?
- It is the fewest moves needed to solve the lot, found by a breadth-first search over every possible position.
- Is every Traffic Out puzzle solvable?
- Yes. Puzzles are generated from positions where the red car can reach the exit, so a solution always exists.
