How to Win at Tile Pairs: Tile Matching Strategy

In Tile Pairs, a tile is free when nothing lies on top of it and its left or right side is open. Clearing a layout is less about spotting pairs and more about choosing which pair to take. Pick badly and you bury the tile you need. Here is how to clear the Pyramid, Star, Bridge and Fortress layouts.

Unlock the most tiles

When you have a choice of pairs, take the one that frees the most other tiles. Tiles on top of tall stacks and at the ends of long rows usually unlock the most. A pair from the edge of a flat area often unlocks nothing new, so leave it for later when you need an easy move.

Dig into tall stacks early

Tall stacks hide many tiles underneath, and if their matches end up buried elsewhere you can get blocked. Work down the tallest stacks first so the board flattens out evenly. A layout that is still tall in the middle near the end is the most common way to run out of moves.

Think about all four copies

Each tile design usually appears four times. If all four are free, match them together in two pairs. If three are free, choose the pair that leaves the third one blocking the least, ideally keeping the one that sits on top of other tiles for later. If a pair's other two copies are trapped under each other, match those trapped ones first when you can.

Build quick-match combos

Matching pairs within a few seconds of each other builds a combo that raises the points for each match, up to eight times. Before you start a run, find two or three pairs you plan to take, then clear them quickly. Planning first and clicking fast is the best way to score while still choosing good pairs.

Save hints and shuffles

You have five hints and three shuffles. A shuffle costs 25 points, and when you clear the board you get a bonus for each hint and shuffle you did not use, plus a time bonus. So treat them as a safety net. Use a hint when you truly cannot see a pair, and shuffle only when there are no moves left.
