Rummy

Tavolo e carte

Rummy is the classic draw-and-discard card game for 2 to 4 players with one 52-card deck. On each turn you draw from the deck or the discard pile, lay down melds — sets of three or four cards of the same rank, or runs of three or more cards in the same suit — add single cards to any meld on the table, and discard one card. The first player to get rid of every card wins the round and scores the cards left in the other hands. Go out in a single turn for a double-points Rummy!

Consigli

  • Keep cards that work two ways, like a 7♥ next to 7♠ and 8♥: they can finish a set or a run.
  • Throw away high cards (J, Q, K) early when they don’t fit anything: they cost 10 points each if a rival goes out.
  • Watch what rivals pick up from the discard pile and avoid discarding cards that complete their melds.

Domande

Can the Ace be high?
Yes. An Ace can start a run (A-2-3) or end one (Q-K-A), but a run cannot go around the corner (K-A-2). In scoring an Ace is worth 1 point.
What is a “Rummy”?
If you go out in one turn by laying down your whole hand without having melded or laid off before, your points for the round are doubled.
What happens if the deck runs out?
The discard pile, except its top card, is turned over to form a new deck once. If the deck runs out again, the round ends and nobody scores.
