How to Win at Grand Rally: Tennis Tips & Strategy

Grand Rally keeps tennis fast: your player runs to the ball, and you choose the timing, direction and type of every shot. Sets are first to four games with a tie-break at 3-3, so a single break of serve can decide a set. Here is how to win points against the easy, normal and hard computer.

Time every shot

Tap when the ring around the ball closes. Perfect timing hits harder and more accurately, while early or late taps add error and send balls long, wide or into the net. Waiting for the ring is the single biggest improvement you can make, and it matters even more on Hard where loose balls are punished.

Move the computer around

Tap left or right to aim. Hitting to alternate sides makes the computer run, and the open court it leaves behind is your target. A couple of deep shots side to side, then one into the open space, is a reliable way to finish a rally with a winner.

Do not go for the lines on every shot. Aiming a little inside the sidelines still pulls the computer wide, and it keeps your error rate down. Most points against a strong opponent are lost on your own unforced mistakes rather than won by the computer.

Use drop shots and lobs together

Swipe down for a drop shot and up for a lob. A drop shot works best when the computer is far behind its baseline. If it rushes in and gets there, the lob over its head into the empty back court often wins the point. Using the two together is far more effective than either alone.

Serve for free points

To serve, tap to toss and tap again near the top. A well-timed serve aimed to a corner can be an ace. Be careful: two faults in a row is a double fault and gives away the point. If your first serve misses, play a safer second one into the middle of the box.

Win the big points

Points go 15, 30, 40, and at 40-40 a single deciding point wins the game, so treat it like match point. At 3-3 the set goes to a tie-break to 7. In both cases cut out risky shots, wait for perfect timing and let the computer make the mistake. In best of three, a lost first set is far from over.
